Chelsea could join Tottenham Hotspur in the chase for in-form AS Roma striker Mattia Destro if Fernando Torres leaves the club before the end of the summer, according to Le Figaro.

The Blues have already signed two new strikers this summer, bringing in Diego Costa for £32m from Atletico Madrid and re-signing club legend Didier Drogba on a free transfer, whilst letting Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba both leave for Everton and Besiktas, respectively.

Torres’ form since his £50m move to Chelsea from Liverpool back in 2011 has left much to be desired, and it could still be that he will be offloaded before the transfer window closes, with Destro now being eyed as his replacement.

The Italian international has been in great goalscoring form of late, bagging himself 13 goals in just 20 appearances in a superb breakthrough season last term.

His prolific touch in front of goal has not gone unnoticed, with Tottenham believed to be big admirers of his, though Chelsea could now be ready to join the running for his signature in the coming weeks as more transfer movement is expected to take place at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have also been linked with Destro’s Roma team-mate Mehdi Benatia recently.
