Liverpool kicked off their new season with three points against Southampton, but it was a much more scrappy victory than manager Brendan Rodgers would’ve been hoping for.
Raheem Sterling gave Liverpool the lead before a fine strike by Saints right back Nathaniel Clyne leveled the score. Star striker Daniel Sturridge settled matters for Liverpool, however, nudging home from close ranger before Simon Mignolet secured the three points with a fine late save.
