Manchester United’s potential move for Sporting Lisbon defender seems to be moving ever closer, with the Mail reporting that the Red Devils are willing to offer winger Nani on a season-long loan deal as bait to help lure Rojo to Old Trafford.

Sporting had reportedly demanded either Nani or teammate Anderson on a loan deal to help beef up the deal for Rojo, potentially due to the fact that the Portuguese club only own 25% of the rights to potentially their most saleable asset.

Signing Nani on loan for the season, with the report suggesting that United would be willing to pay a significant portion of the player’s wages, would help to overcome this obstacle and make a deal to bring Rojo to Manchester even closer.

Louis van Gaal’s need to bring in defensive reinforcements was highlighted at the weekend when the Red Devils lost their opening game of the season 2-1 at home against Swansea City, with Garry Monk’s side exploiting the defensive holes in United’s 3-4-1-2 system.

There are still issues surrounding the player’s ownership to be overcome, however, with a third party owning the majority of the rights to Rojo, and a small amount held by former club Lokomotiv Moscow.

One potential sticking point in this solution is also the fact that the report suggests Nani to be reluctant over a return to the club from which he joined United.
