Serie A side winning race for La Liga midfielder.
Napoli are reportedly edging Swansea City in the chase to sign Villarreal midfielder Jonathan de Guzman, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Netherlands international has spent the last two seasons on loan at the Liberty Stadium, impressing in the side and earning a reputation as something of a dead-ball specialist, with a collection of fine strikes to his name for the Welsh club.
Still, the Swans may be fighting a losing battle to keep the 26-year-old on a permanent deal, with a fee yet to be struck between themselves and his club Villarreal, and with Napoli now stepping up their interest in the player.
Rafael Benitez is keen to strengthen his squad for a Serie A title push this season, and de Guzman looks like a player with all the quality to play for a top side challenging for honours in a competitive league and in Europe.
This could potentially be the second blow dealt by Napoli to Swansea this summer, with the Italian giants also poaching the Swans to take Spanish forward Michu on a season-long loan this year.
Garry Monk’s side look in good shape, however, having sprung a shock on Manchester United with a 2-1 win at Old Trafford on the opening day of the Premier League season.
