Tottenham have held talks with former Chelsea striker Samuel Eto’o as White Hart Lane boss Mauricio Pochettino seeks to strengthen his attack according to the Daily Express.

The 33 year old Cameroon international is a free agent and is being pursued, unsurprisingly, by a number of top clubs including Liverpool, Inter Milan, Ajax and Everton.

With Roberto Soldado and Erik Lamela both failing to impress in their debut seasons one can see why Pochettino would look to sign another striker, though clearly a move for Eto’o is only a short term solution to any problem.

Eto’o wants £100k a week, salary demands that Liverpool are unwilling to stump up and one imagines an outlay Everton would similarly turn down. This could well leave Spurs in the driving seat in the pursuit of the three time Champions League winner.

Jose Mourinho brought in Eto’o last season and arguably the former Barcelona and Inter Milan man delivered the goods, netting nine goals from 16 Premier League starts. Perhaps most tellingly the once feared finisher was especially adept against top sides, scoring a hat-trick against Man United and also registering goals against Liverpool, Arsenal and indeed Tottenham.
