Stadio Olimpico side to use money from defender sale to fund Etihad Stadium striker bid.

AS Roma have set their sights on Man City attacker Stevan Jovetic according to the Daily Mirror.

The Serie A side are ready to consider offers for highly rated centre-back Mehdi Benatia with the £25m rated Moroccan linked with interest from Chelsea, Man United and Bayern Munich.

Stadio Olimpico boss Rudi Garcia then plans to use funds from the sale to mount a bid for Montenegrin intenational Jovetic.

The 24 year old started Man City’s Community Shield encounter with Arsenal and the Premier League title holder’s opening fixture against Newcastle United but when Sergio Aguero is fully fit the former Fiorentina man will be back on the bench.

Last term Jovetic managed just two Premier League starts and as such may be open to a return to the Italian top tier, where he proved a big success.

Jovetic netted 27 goals in 58 appearances in his final two seasons in Florence and could offer Garcia a fresh striking option.
