The Scottish manager is poised to put pen to paper on a three year to replace Tony Pulis at Selhurst Park and has been promised funds to invest in his squad before the transfer window slams shut.

21 year old wide-man Zaha is surplus to requirements at Old Trafford and Mackay hopes to lure the youngster back to the South London club where he made his name.

Chairman Steve Parish is known to be a massive fan of the England international and a move to re-sign for the Eagles may tempt Zaha.

Zaha was handed just two sub Premier League appearances by David Moyes before he was sent on loan to Cardiff City and Louis van Gaal is keen to offload the player.

Mackay was axed, cruelly, by Cardiff City last December and is set to beat candidates Tim Sherwood and Glenn Hoddle to the Palace job.
