Manchester United may be lumbered with Marouane Fellaini until January after the £27.5m flop injured his left foot, according to The Sun.

The newspaper have exclusive pictures of the Belgium international heading to hospital on crutches and wearing a protective boot.

Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal is prepared to listen to offers for Fellaini, 26.

Napoli had appeared to be leading the race for his signature, with a loan move being mooted.

However, Fellaini’s chances of passing a medical now seem slim, meaning that United are likely to have to keep hold of him until the winter transfer window.

It is unclear when or how Fellaini picked up his latest injury.

He played for the last 23 minutes of United’s 2-1 defeat to Swansea City on Saturday.

Fellaini started just 12 Premier League matches last season, as his campaign was disrupted by a wrist problem.

Van Gaal does not have Fellaini in his current plans and the Dutchman is keen to sign another midfielder to replace the former Everton star.

Real Madrid’s Angel Di Maria, Ajax’s Daley Blind and Juventus man Arturo Vidal have all been heavily linked with moves to Old Trafford this summer.
