Raul Garcia cancelled out James Rodriguez’s opener as Atletico Madrid scored a crucial away goal in the first leg of their Spanish Super Cup tie with local rivals Real Madrid.
Colombian World Cup star Rodriguez scored on his competitive debut for the Champions League winners, only to see his strike cancelled out by Garcia’s late header – as Diego Simeone’s side take a strong result back to the Vicente Calderon.
Real’s marking was poor, and Koke’s delivery was turned in just before the game entered the 90th minute. The second-leg takes place on Friday, shortly before the start of the new La Liga season.
