Jose Mourinho has made it clear that Torres doesn’t have a future at Stamford Bridge but he has twice rejected moves away, with Wolfsburg and Inter Milan both previously in talks.

However, reports are now suggesting that he could now be on his way to the Italian capital, which would see Destro head in the opposite direction.

Destro has also been linked with a move to Spurs after being hailed as one of the most exciting attackers in Europe, though the Blues are keen to beat their Premier League rivals to his signature as they look to boost their attacking options before the transfer window shuts.

He is valued at about £20million but including Torres in the deal could bring the price right down, even though his stock has fallen in recent years.

Roma’s sporting director Walter Sabatini has been in London this week to hold talks with Blues officials.
