Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will look to AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli to solve his striker crisis, despite having previously stated that he was not interested in the player.

The Daily Mail believes that the Anfield boss is preparing to do a dramatic u-turn on his stance regarding the former Manchester City centre forward, as he continues to scour Europe for a world class replacement for Luis Suarez.

Mail sources believe that the Reds are investigating the possibility of taking the controversial Italian on loan, after making limited progress in their attempts to lure Radamel Falcao or Edinson Cavani to the club.

It is thought that Milan would prefer a permanent deal and that could yet prove an obstacle as Liverpool understandably have concerns about his behaviour.

His agent Mino Raiola has flown to England to ascertain what Liverpool want to do and see if other English clubs, including Arsenal – who were linked heavily with the player earlier in the window – are interested.

The 24-year-old scored 18 goals in 41 appearances in all competitions last season, as Milan finished a disappointing eighth in Serie A. The bad boy forward also netted 30 times for City during a two-and-a-half-year stay in England.

Liverpool have already signed eight players this summer, but are desperate to add a ninth that would compliment their current front-line options of Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert.
