Liverpool look set to beat off competition from Manchester United and Juventus for the signing of AS Monaco striker Radamel Falcao, according to RMC.

The Reds are said to be closing in on a £12m loan deal for the Colombian international, who has been linked with a whole host of top clubs this summer after becoming unsettled in Ligue 1.

The 28-year-old only signed for Monaco in a £51m deal last summer, but now seems keen to make the move to a bigger club, with Liverpool leading the chase for his signature in the final weeks of the transfer window.

Brendan Rodgers is desperate to bring in a top class replacement for Luis Suarez after his £75m move to Barcelona, and has also been linked with a loan bid for AC Milan star Mario Balotelli, though that may now have fallen through.

The likes of United and Juventus are also keen on snapping up Falcao, but Liverpool are willing to pay up just to sign the South American goal machine on loan for the 2014/15 season, with a deal looking increasingly close to going through now.

The Merseyside giants have spent heavily this summer on other big-name signings such as Adam Lallana, Lazar Markovic and Dejan Lovren.
