Arsenal could revive their long standing interest in Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote, after the Magpies place a £14m price-tag on the player’s head.

The Gunners are still interested in adding a holding midfielder to their squad this summer, and having seemingly been price out of moves for Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira and Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho, they could return to Newcastle.

Arsene Wenger has already recruited full-back Mathieu Debuchy from the Tyneside club this summer, and is a known admirer of the 28-year-old Ivorian, who scored his only Premier League goal during Newcastle’s dramatic 4-4 draw with Arsenal in 2011, in which Alan Pardew’s side trailed 4-0 at half-time.

The Daily Mail reported yesterday that Newcastle had turned down an opening bid of £4m from Lokomotiv Moscow, and reiterated that their asking price was significantly higher.

Moscow are chasing a replacement for Lassana Diarra. The former Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid star is thought to be on the verge of a move to Queens Park Rangers.

Yesterday, QPR also completed the signing of Dutch International Leroy Fer from Norwich, who in turn have signed striker Cameron Jerome from Stoke City for £2m and free agent defender Carlos Cuellar.
