Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has good news for Manchester United in their pursuit of midfielder Angel di Maria by confirming the Argentine wants to leave the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.

The Red Devils have been strongly linked with the 26-year-old for some time and Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo reported that a £56m deal for the South American is expected to be completed within the next 48 hours.

“Di María has asked to leave and has rejected a new contract offer from the club,” Ancelotti was quoted by Marca.

“This is a situation the player himself has to resolve.

“If he doesn’t seek a solution for his future, he’ll keep working with us and there won’t be any problems.”

The future of di Maria with Madrid has been cast into doubt this summer following the arrivals of both Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez from Bayern Munich and AS Monaco respectively.

Although the Argentina international was considered to be among Los Blancos’ best performers last season as the club won the Copa del Rey and Champions League, he has still been edged out at the Bernabeu.

United are keen on signing di Maria as the midfield ace should provide the creativity in the middle that they have so badly lacked over the past 12 months.

The Argentinian would also represent the sort of world-class player that fans at Old Trafford believe should be playing for them and would be a big boost for new manager Louis van Gaal in his big to improve the team’s fortunes.
