Samuel Eto’o has turned down a move to Ajax as he continues to wait on offers from Liverpool and Everton – who are both known to be chasing a new striker this summer.

The Daily Mail claim that the Cameroonian, who is a free agent after leaving Chelsea earlier this summer, turned down the chance to sign for the Dutch giants after the deadline for an agreement passed at 6pm on Wednesday night.

Eto’o, 33, who was a prolific goalscorer for Barcelona and Inter Milan during the earlier years of his career, is hopeful of a second season in the Premier League, and would be prepared to accept a bit-part role with either of the Merseyside giants.

Liverpool are seeking striking reinforcements following the departures of Luis Suarez and Iago Aspas, but seemingly have their sights set on loftier targets, such as AS Monaco front-man Radamel Falcao, AC Milan’s Mario Balotelli and PSG’s Edinson Cavani.

Everton have already added £28m Chelsea target man Romelu Lukaku to their ranks this summer, but are still keen on another addition up-front before the transfer window slams shut at the end of the month.
