Manchester City defender Matija Nastasic is a much coveted figure this summer and AS Roma, Napoli and Juventus are all showing a keen interest in the £12m rated youngster, reports the Manchester Evening News.

According to the Mirror Arsenal also have the 21-year-old on their shortlist, but Nastasic would prefer a move to Serie A and the Gunners may have to look elsewhere for recruitment at the back.

Arsene Wenger’s side have been left a little light in defence following the £15m sale of captain Thomas Vermaelen to FC Barcelona and at least one new face is expected before the transfer window shuts on September 1.

As for Nastasic, the future of the Serbia international at the Etihad Stadium is in serious doubt and manager Manuel Pellegrini has admitted the centre-back could well be sold.

“Matija needs to play. We already have important players here with four full backs, Demichelis, Kompany, Mangala and Boyata,” Pellegrini was quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

“We will see what happens, but we have until the end of August to see what kind of offers we get for Matija.”

Napoli are interested in signing the Serbian on-loan, but the Citizens would prefer Nastasic to leave on a permanent deal if at all possible.

Roma are perhaps in the strongest position with their own defender Mehdi Benatia likely to leave the Stadio Olimpico, which will free up the funds required.

However, Juve have not given up hope and are considering selling Angelo Ogbonna in order to be able to afford the £12m required to sign Nastasic themselves.
