Arsenal could be on alert as Manchester United have reportedly told bit-part player Danny Welbeck that he can leave the club this summer, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Gunners and their north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur would seemingly be set to lead the chase for the England international, who has been in and out of the United starting lineup in his career with the club so far.

However, he no longer seems to be in the first-team plans under new manager Louis van Gaal, who may be plotting signings of his own upfront before the end of the summer transfer window, with suggestions of interest in AS Monaco star Radamel Falcao.

Arsenal and Tottenham are also both known to be in the market for a forward, with Arsene Wenger’s side missing out to Liverpool for the signing of AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli.

Spurs, meanwhile, have also been linked with Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy, but the availability of Welbeck may now lead to a two-way battle between the north London giants for his signature.

Welbeck, 23, has made 139 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 29 goals. He also has a record of 8 goals in 26 caps for England.
