AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli is set to take a 50% pay cut on his basic wage to join Liverpool, as he prepares for face-to-face talks with Brendan Rodgers ahead of a prospective move, report the Guardian.

Balotelli is all set to become Liverpool’s most eye-catching signing of an extremely busy 2014 summer transfer window and will be seen as the Reds’ replacement for Luis Suarez, who has been sold to Barcelona.

The report suggests that Liverpool have now agreed a fee, believed to be in the region of £16m, with AC Milan for the transfer of Balotelli and personal terms have also been finalised, but Balotelli must convince Rodgers to go through with the move when the two meet on Saturday.

Balotelli’s willingness to see his £160k basic weekly wage at the San Siro slashed, albeit topped up with generous performance and behaviour related bonuses, may well go some way to persuading Rodgers that he is willing to put the work in to be a success at Anfield.

The former Manchester City man is seen as having the ability to be one of the finest strikers in world football, but his time both at Eastlands and in Milan have been marred by his erratic behaviour both on and off the field.
