Manchester United will welcome star striker Robin van Persie back into their squad for this weekend’s game away to Sunderland, according to the Daily Mail.
The Red Devils fielded a makeshift side in their opening game of the season at home to Swansea City, which ended in something of a shock 2-1 defeat as new manager Louis van Gaal got off to a tricky start to life in England.
Van Persie’s return upfront will surely make a big difference to the side, with the Dutchman proving to be such a superb signing for the club when he made the surprise move from Arsenal two years ago.
The 31-year-old tweeted that he was back in training and looking forward to the game this weekend, and it could prove to be the start of a fine connection between himself and van Gaal at club level, with the striker also having shone under the same coach during their time working together with the Dutch national team.
Meanwhile, United are also hoping to strengthen their squad with the signings of Real Madrid pair Angel Di Maria and Sami Khedira, with the expensive Argentine still thought to be their top target before the end of the summer.
