Atletico Madrid have lifted the Spanish Super Cup this evening, after Mario Mandzukic’s goal against fierce rivals Real Madrid was enough for a 1-0 win at the Vicente Calderon for Diego Simeone and his side.
The hosts took the lead when Mandzukic latched on to a flick on from Raul Garcia and fired a low shot beyond the reach of the ‘keeper, but Simeone still wasn’t happy and saw himself sent to the stands mid-way through the first half.
His team did the business, however, and held on to secure another famous triumph over their city rivals, although both Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez came close to rescuing things for Real in a tense second half.
