Arsenal could still be forced into the transfer market for one more new signing before the end of the summer after losing Olivier Giroud to injury, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The Gunners have been linked with a number of attacking players this summer due to Arsene Wenger’s desire to bring in an alternative to Giroud upfront, but a possible lengthy lay-off for the Frenchman could now force him to build on the addition of Alexis Sanchez in that position.

Sanchez started upfront for Arsenal at Goodison Park as they drew 2-2 with Everton at the weekend, but looked unconvincing in a ‘false 9’ role for the side, leading to Giroud coming off the bench to replace him.

It is not yet clear who Arsenal’s main targets will be, though Queens Park Rangers striker Loic Remy has been linked with the club in the past and is still available after his proposed move to Liverpool fell apart earlier this summer.

It has also been revealed that the Gunners twice rejected the chance to sign AC Milan star Mario Balotelli, who is now set to complete a £16m move to Anfield, leaving few options available in the transfer market at this point.
