Manchester United could be set to renew their interest in Paris Saint-Germain youngster Marco Verratti as they continue to struggle in their efforts to sign Arturo Vidal from Juventus.

The Red Devils have been linked with the Italian playmaker in the past, with the 21-year-old establishing himself as one of the best young players in Europe in recent years.

With a superb range of passing and great creativity from a deep-lying midfield position, Verratti has often been compared with Juventus and Italy legend Andrea Pirlo, and he looks exactly the kind of player United are currently lacking in that part of the pitch, even with the summer signing of Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao.

It has been another frustrating transfer window for United this year after also missing out on a number of their top targets last summer, and they will now hope that an offer of around £34m may be enough to tempt PSG into selling one of their key players.

The Ligue 1 giants have been under some pressure to sell players this summer due to Uefa’s Financial Fair Play regulations, with the club themselves failing in their efforts to sign Real Madrid winger Angel Di Maria, who now looks set to make a £62m move to Old Trafford instead.

PSG may have little time now to find an alternative in the final few days of the transfer window, but could still look to offload one or two players in preparation for January and next summer, with Verratti possibly being one who could be let go for the right price.

Manager Laurent Blanc already has the likes of Blaise Matuidi, Yohan Cabaye, Javier Pastore and Adrien Rabiot to choose from in the central midfield area, and although they are said to have previously rejected approaches for Verratti, these bids have been in the £29-30m region.

United are ready to offer more and may even go as high as £37m as the Italian international would still prove cheaper than Vidal, who is likely to cost more than £40m as well as the offering of a player in exchange as part of the deal.
