There has been much speculation surrounding the future of Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski this summer, but despite reported interest from Juventus and Napoli his agent says otherwise.

“I read in the newspapers that Juventus and Napoli were interested in Lukas, but there has been no approach from either of those clubs,” Podolski’s representative Ali Pektas told Tuttomercatoweb.

“I don’t know if he will go to Italy in this transfer window. I can’t say anything for sure.

“The only certainty is that Lukas has a contract with Arsenal.”

Podolski is yet to play for the Gunners in 2014/15 after helping Germany win the World Cup this summer and with Alexis Sanchez arriving from FC Barcelona in a £35m transfer the 29-year-old’s opportunities are expected to be limited.

That is what has brought about the links with Serie A, although following the news Olivier Giroud is out for three months with an ankle injury manager Arsene Wenger may be forced to play the attacker more.

Podolski arrived at the Emirates Stadium from Cologne in the summer of 2012 and has since played 69 times for the club in all competitions and scored 28 goals.

Although considered a striker upon arriving in North London, Wenger has tried to get the German to convert to a left sided attacking midfielder, but to no real avail.

Many are calling for the Frenchman to sign a new forward in the wake of Giroud’s injury, but the frugal nature of the 64-year-old may seem him turn to Podolski instead.
