He left Manchester City in 2013 to return to his homeland after two-and-a-half years at the Etihad Stadium, but he revealed his delight to return to this country after penning his three-year deal.

“Liverpool are one of the best teams here in England,” he said.

“I’m happy to be back because I left England and it was a mistake. I wanted to go to Italy but I realised it was a mistake.

“English football is generally better. English football is beautiful.”

The 24-year-old will earn a reported £80,000-per-week with Liverpool, and could see his earnings rise to a massive £120,000 providing he abides to a number of behavioural clauses, and the Reds could even extend his stay by an extra year.

Brendan Rodgers spent over two hours with the Italian international on Friday night explaining to Balotelli what is expected of a Liverpool player after a series of on and off the field issues whilst at City and Milan.
