Chelsea forward Fernando Torres appears to be edging closer to moving to AC Milan with ESPN claiming that the Blues flop could be set to move to the San Siro.

This source claims that Rossoneri CEO Adriano Galliani has dropped a big hint of the imminent signing after he promised “a big signing” will be made before the transfer window closes.

When asked to elaborate on what position the apparent signing played in Galliani is said to have responded

“fantastic centre-forward”, adding:

“We’re currently in the midst of plenty of negotiations”.

Galliani also told the club’s official TV channel:

“We’re entering the final hours of the market so let’s see if we are able to sign a big-name striker, this is our main objective. Torres is certainly a big-name centre-forward, let’s see if we can get him or somebody else. We’re hard at work.”

Torres has come nowhere near justifying the £50m outlay Chelsea made back in 2011, the former Liverpool man scoring just 20 goals in 110 Premier League fixtures.

Jose Mourinho has brought in Diego Costa and Didier Drogba to boost his attack and may therefore be open to offloading Torres, who is yet to play a minute of top tier action with the west London side in 2014/15.

AC Milan are in the market for a new striker having sold Mario Balotelli to Liverpool earlier this week.
