Arsenal are focused on securing a loan deal for AS Monaco striker Radamel Falcao, report the Express, with Arsene Wenger not wanting to make a permanent attacking signing so late in the transfer window.

Wenger’s desire to sign a striker seems to have emerged from an injury to French frontman Olivier Giroud, who has been ruled out for around three months with a foot injury, leaving the Gunners short on natural options for the lone striker role.

New signing Alexis Sanchez started there in the nervy midweek Champions League victory over Besiktas, but the Chilean certainly seems more comfortably out wide – whilst both Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell are young and raw.

Falcao scored the winning goal for Monaco at the weekend in their trip to Nantes, the first points that Leonardo Jadim’s men have picked up this season following shock defeats to Lorient and Bordeaux – whilst he also bagged against Arsenal in the Emirates Cup.

He appears to be unsettled in the principality, however, having seen compatriot and friend James Rodriguez sold to Real Madrid this summer – the club where Falcao has been linked and is believed to want to move, although Carlo Ancelotti seems to be content with his summer dealings without a move for the former Atletico star.
