Roy Hodgson Announces England Squad: Debut Call-ups For Arsenal & Tottenham Stars

Hodgson names youthful party for Norway and Switzerland tests.

England manager Roy Hodgson has included Arsenal teenager Calum Chambers and Tottenham Hotspur left-back Danny Rose in his 22-man squad for the upcoming internationals against Norway and Switzerland.

Hodgson has also opted to include uncapped Aston Villa midfielder Fabien Delph and recent Newcastle United signing Jack Colback.

Chambers has not even represented the Three Lions at Under-21 level, but he has enjoyed a fine start to the season, featuring in all five of Arsenal’s fixtures following a £16m transfer from Southampton.

The 19-year-old has played predominantly at centre-half for the Gunners, but he is likely to make his senior England at right-back, with Kyle Walker and Glen Johnson both injured.

Rose could play on the other side of England’s back four, but he will have to battle Everton’s Leighton Baines for a starting spot.

Frank Lampard’s decision to join Steven Gerrard in international retirement has left the Three Lions short in central midfield.

Delph, who was capped four times at Under-21 level between 2008 and 2010, has been one of Villa’s best players this season.

In two Premier League starts, the 24-year-old has completed five tackles and seven successful dribbles, as well as winning six free-kick.

Meanwhile, Colback has played in both of Newcastle’s league games this term.

England play Norway in a friendly at Wembley on Wednesday September 3, before beginning their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign with a tricky trip to Switzerland on Monday September 8.
