Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has said that he is willing to sign new players before the transfer window closes but only if it improves his squad, Goal.com reports.

The Gunners secured qualification to the Champions League group stages last night after beating Turkish side Besiktas 1-0 in a play-off.

With their future in this season’s competition secured, Arsenal may now pursue some of their main transfer targets with the likes of Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho and QPR striker Loic Remy on Wenger’s radar.

While the French manager is now happy to make additions to his squad, he won’t do so for the sake of it and will only sign players he thinks will improve his squad.

“We are open for any position as long as we feel that the player can strengthen the squad,” he told reporters after Wednesday’s 1-0 win against Besiktas.

“Buy to buy, I don’t see the purpose of that. If we find the players who we feel can give something to our squad, we will do it in any position. We are open but it has to be enough to buy. It has to make sense.”

Reports suggest that Wenger will look to strengthen his squad all over the pitch with the Gunners needing reinforcements in defence, midfield and up front.

The most pressing position that Wenger may need to reinforce is up front, with the 64 year old set to be without Olivier Giroud until at least Decemeber with the French striker out injured due to a broken ankle.
