Atletico Madrid Plan To Hijack Serie A Giant’s Move To Sign Chelsea Star

Torres is keen to leave Chelsea after falling behind Diego Costa and Didier Drogba in the strikers pecking order.

Atletico Madrid are set to rival AC Milan for the signature of Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, the Daily Star reports.

Milan have been favourites to sign Torres in recent days with reports suggesting that the Italian giants and the Blues have agreed to a season long loan for the Spanish striker.

However, the Serie A side are struggling to agree to the striker’s high wage demands, which has given Atletico an opportunity to enter the race to sign their former front man.

One possible sticking point will be that like Milan, Atleti won’t be able to match the wages Torres currently earns at Stamford Bridge.

The former Liverpool striker is currently on a £180,000 per week contract and he is unwilling to lower that amount in order to force a move away from West London.

However, with the transfer window set to close on Monday, Torres is running out of time to find a new club, meaning he may have to lower his wage demands or risk spending a season at the Blues’ third choice forward.

While Atletico are unable to match the Spaniard’s current wages, they should be able to match anything that Milan offer, meaning the race to sign the 30-year-old is wide open.
