The Reds had been thought to be keeping an eye on the Cameroonian international after he fell down the pecking order at the Nou Camp last season.

And despite interest from AC Milan and Tottenham, it appears Anfield is Song’s desired destination and, according to the Mirror, is waiting for a firm offer from Brendan Rodgers.

The midfielder ended a seven years spell with Arsenal in 2012 to join up with the then Spanish champions, but is now said to be desperate to secure a return to the Premier League in order to kick start his career again.

However, it remains unclear whether Rodgers is still in the market for more additions, having tied up a deal for Mario Balotelli earlier this week.

Song has made a total of 65 appearances for the Catalan giants over the past two seasons, scoring just once. He had been hoping to make a name for himself on the world stage at the World Cup this summer, but Cameroon’s dissapoitning performances were offset by his comical red card vs Croatia.
