Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has been given permission by the Blues to undergo a medical at AC Milan ahead of a proposed transfer, report the Express, with the former Liverpool man edging closer to a move to the San Siro before the transfer window closes on Monday evening.

Torres, who Chelsea broke the British transfer record to sign from Premier League rivals Liverpool for £50 million, has struggled for form ever since arriving at Stamford Bridge and the early indications from this season are that he will be third choice behind new signings Diego Costa and Didier Drogba if he stays with the Blues.

Milan, meanwhile, have sold star striker Mario Balotelli to Liverpool and manager Pippo Inzaghi is desperate to add increased firepower to his side, with the Serie A campaign kicking off this weekend.

The Italian giants are reportedly ready to offer Torres a two-year deal at the San Siro, with the option of a third, but only if the Spanish international is willing to take a significant drop in wages from his considerable package at Stamford Bridge.

Torres may feel that a transfer is what is required to reignite his career, however, after a frustrating few years at Stamford Bridge, with former club Atletico Madrid also having been linked with a move.
