Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has provided an update on the fitness of Spanish striker Diego Costa, after it was feared that he could be out for as long as six weeks.
The 25-year-old has made a superb start to life as a Chelsea player with two goals in his first two Premier League games, but a hamstring concern could mean he is now set for a spell on the sidelines.
However, Mourinho believes there may still be a chance of Costa playing as early as tomorrow for the game against Everton, though he would likely only be among the substitutes at Goodison Park.
Speaking at his Friday press conference, the Portuguese coach explained that the club are still waiting to see how Costa responds to fitness tests, and that the situation may not be as bad as initially feared.
Mourinho on Costa: “You have to call Steve [PR officer] after the training session. We are trying everything for him to play tomorrow.”

Mourinho on Costa: “We have to try and see if the reaction is positive. If reaction positive, we take him and select on bench.”

Mourinho: “It’s a better scenario [than six-week lay-off] but what matters is match tomorrow, not match in few weeks.” All others fit.

Chelsea signed Costa in a £32m deal from Atletico Madrid this summer, and his injury has sparked links to more signings upfront such as AS Roma striker Mattia Destro.
