Tottenham Hotspur are set to dip their toes back into the murky waters of the transfer market, with Sky Sports reporting that French side Montpellier have confirmed that a fee has been agreed for midfielder Benjamin Stambouli.

The talented midfielder was one of Montpellier’s stand-out performers in Ligue 1 last season, along with new Newcastle United signing Remy Cabella, and looks set to become one of new Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino’s first signings in the White Hart Lane hot seat.

The French club have reportedly confirmed that a fee has been agreed with Spurs for the transfer of Stambouli and that he now must agree personal terms and pass a medical at White Hart Lane for the transfer to go through.

An industrious box-to-box player, Stambouli would appear to be the player that Pochettino has turned to following his failed attempts to lure former club Southampton into selling another Frenchman, Morgan Schneiderlin, following the mass exodus out of St. Mary’s this summer.

The 24 year-old came through the youth ranks at Montpellier and has made more than 100 appearances for the club, including being part of the same team as Olivier Giroud that shocked French football by winning the Ligue 1 title in 2011/12.
