Current European champions Real Madrid are set to make a final flurry in the transfer market to bolster their strike force in an attempt to keep cross city rivals Atletico at bay.

Two reports from Spanish newspaper El Confidencial claim that the club will finally make a move for Alvaro Negredo after keeping a close watch on the Manchester City striker despite his injury problems.

However, another report on Friday has claimed that they will also look to stump Chelsea’s interest in Roma forward Mattia Destro.

Ancelotti sees Negredo as a decent option to act as a back-up to Karim Benzema as the front line striker at the Bernabeu, and reports had suggested he was close to a return to La Liga before damaging his metatarsal in July.

Destro, however, had been thought to be on the brink of a move to Chelsea to replace the AC Milan bound Fernando Torres. But with the uncertainty still surrounding Torres’ future it no longer looks as though the deal will go ahead.

Madrid bosses are aware that they will need to build upon last season’s Champions League success if they are to justify their continued heavy spending.
