Tottenham Hotspur could be set to sign Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck on a season-long loan deal, report the Mail, with the England international reportedly keen on moving to White Hart Lane for the campaign.

Welbeck has reportedly been made available by United manager Louis van Gaal having failed to break into the United first team at the start of this season, save for his appearance in their sorry League Cup defeat at Stadium:MK.

Everton and Arsenal have also been mentioned as potential destinations for Welbeck, but it seems as though Spurs have emerged as the most likely suitors, with the report suggesting that United will be willing to allow Welbeck to move to a club who may be a direct domestic rivals as long as they agree to pay all of Welbeck’s wages for the duration of a loan spell.

Welbeck emerged from the academy at Old Trafford and has been a regular over recent seasons, although his progress seems to have stunted somewhat as a result of being utilised in deeper and wide positions rather than the natural centre forward role that is preferred by Welbeck.

With Pochettino not seeming convinced by any of Emmanuel Adebayor, Roberto Soldado and Harry Kane, the opportunity could be there for Welbeck to do so at White Hart Lane.
