Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is still looking for new faces to bring into the squad ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline and could move for the Uruguayan ace having been a long time admirer of the player.

And despite the Ligue 1 champions insisting that he’ll stay put, Portuguese newspaper Record says Arsenal are still working on trying to sign him.

The reports claims that current Gunners star Joel Campbell could then wrap up his move to the Portuguese capital this weekend should Wenger have any joy in convincing the French giants to let Cavani leave.

Wenger will keep Campbell around if he can’t add to his options but should Cavani be signed, Campbell will be surplus to requirements and sold.

The Costa Rican has spent the past three seasons away from the Emirates on loan, but his reputation was enhanced this summer thanks to his blockbuster performances at the World Cup.
