Manchester United have announced that a deal has been agreed with Ajax for the transfer of Dutch international defender Daley Blind.

The club have confirmed via their official Twitter account that the two clubs have agreed an undisclosed transfer fee for the Netherlands full-back, who will be formally announced as a Manchester United player after agreeing personal terms and completing a standard medical procedure.

Blind has been linked with the Red Devils for much of the summer after impressing with his performances in the Eredivisie and under new United boss Louis van Gaal for the Dutch national team at this summer’s World Cup finals in Brazil.

Barcelona were also linked with the 24-year-old at points earlier in the transfer window, but he will become United’s fifth signing of the summer following deals for Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind.

The club looked in great need of strengthening after a highly disappointing campaign last year, in which they finished in seventh place in the Premier League and without any silverware.

Blind looks another useful addition to the United squad and could fill in a number of different roles for the side with his ability to play left-back, centre-back or defensive midfield.
