Liverpool centre back Daniel Agger is keen on a surprise return to former club Brondby, report the Express, with the Danish international remaining concerned about a likely lack of playing time at Anfield in the coming campaign.

Agger picked up another injury during the club’s pre-season preparations, which have only added to the frustrations of a player whose stock at Anfield has continued to dwindle since his arrival from Brondby.

Keen to revive a flagging career, the 29 year-old has reportedly engineered the return to the Copenhagen-based club himself and is set to leave Anfield for a nominal fee, despite the Reds reportedly having rejected offers in excess of £15 million for Agger when he was in his prime.

Having spent eight years at Anfield, however, Agger is likely to be remembered fondly by Liverpool fans as an excellent servant to the club, whilst fans of Brondby are certain to celebrate the return of a club hero.

Agger is also the club’s vice-captain, with his imminent departure meaning that Brendan Rodgers will have to consider who is best to replace in that role, with fellow centre back Martin Skrtel a potential candidate thanks to his determined displays at the heart of the Liverpool back line over recent seasons.
