Real Madrid and former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo says his old manager Sir Alex Ferguson is his only friend in football, according to Spanish publication AS.
Ronaldo supposedly told Portuguese TV that he is “not in football to make friends” but that the former United manager is an exception, in what will go down as something of a surprise revelation from the 29-year-old.
As one of the biggest names in world football for much of the last decade, Ronaldo is a world class talent and hugely popular among large sections of supporters, despite also having something of a ‘primadonna’ reputation, especially earlier in his career.
However, the AS official Twitter account posted these comments from the Bernabeu wide-man, which suggest that he harbours special feelings for the man who kick-started his career at the top level when he brought him to Old Trafford.
Cristiano tells Portuguese TV: “I’m not in football to make friends. The only coach I maintain a friendship with is Ferguson, no one else”.

Ferguson himself is not always known for being easy to work with, and has fallen out with a number of big-name United players that he’s worked with over the years, including long-serving and successful members of his squad such as Roy Keane and David Beckham.
