CHelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel has agreed to join Serie A side AC Milan on a season-long loan deal, report Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, with a medical set for tomorrow for the young midfielder.

Van Ginkel joined Chelsea from Eredivisie outfit Vitesse Arnhem, with whom the club share a close bond, twelve months ago, but his time at the club has been hampered by injury and an inability to force his way to the forefront of manager Jose Mourinho’s thinking.

He is now set to follow former Chelsea teammate Fernando Torres to the San Siro, with the Spaniard having completed his two-year loan switch to Milan on Saturday evening and having been in the stands for Pippo Inzaghi’s side’s opening Serie A victory over Lazio on what has been a positive weekend for the club after a dismal year.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have started the season like a train – steamrolling Everton 6-3 at Goodison Park to follow up comfortable victories over newly promoted duo Burnley and Leicester to complete an excellent first three weeks for Jose Mourinho’s men.

With Nemanja Matic and Cesc Fabregas both having excelled in central midfield, it is hard to see a place for the talented van Ginkel in the current side, so he will have to prove himself during a year in Italy.
