Javier Hernandez is seemingly on the verge of completing a shock move from Manchester United to European champions Real Madrid, with negotiations at an advance stage.

The Daily Express believe that the deal will be confirmed early on transfer deadline day, with the Old Trafford outcast set to provide back-up for Karim Benzema in the central striking role.

Madrid allowed Alvaro Morata to leave the club this summer, and are yet to sign an out-and-out replacement, despite owning a whole host of attacking midfield options.

The source claims that Valencia, Juventus, Tottenham and Southampton will all miss out on the Mexican, who was an unused substitute during Manchester United’s dismal encounter with Burnley on Saturday, and could be one of seven United players who could make their exit from Old Trafford tomorrow.

A deal for Hernandez would suggest that Madrid’s pursuit of Radamel Falcao is all but over – with Real unlikely to sign more that one new striker. Alvaro Negredo is also likely to stay at Manchester City.
