Manchester United are still interested in signing midfielder Arturo Vidal from Juventus, report the Mail, despite the Chilean international starring during Massimo Allegri’s debut victory as boss of the Old Lady as they defeated Chievo 1-0 on the opening day of the Serie A season.
Vidal has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for almost the entire summer, but negotiations have stalled with consistent haggling over the fee for the player – with the report suggesting that United have now lodged a bid of around £35 million with the Serie A champions.
United have spent more than £70 million in the last week alone as Louis van Gaal continues to oversee the most expensive transfer window in the club’s history, but the debut of record signing Angel di Maria couldn’t help United to get their season kick-started after they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Burnley at Turf Moor.
Vidal would be another hugely expensive acquisition, but the former Bayer Leverkusen man certainly has the energy, physicality and goalscoring prowess from central midfield that would add another one of the many missing components that United need to sort out their poor form.
Juventus are unlikely to want to sell, however, particularly having managed to keep hold of one of their prized assets until the final hours of the transfer window.
