A slip up by Borussia Dortmund midfielder Marco Reus appears to have all but confirmed Shinji Kagawa’s return to the German club, the Metro reports.

Kagawa moved to Manchester United two years ago but has struggled to settle in at Old Trafford. He has rarely been played in his favoured number 10 position and has also had to content with a place on the bench on many occasions.

Rumours have suggested that the Japanese international could leave Old Trafford before the transfer window closes with a move back to former club Dortmund being a strong possibility.

Speaking after Dortmund’s 3-2 victory over Augsburg on Friday night, Reus appeared to accidently confirm that Kagawa was on his way back to Dortmund.

He told a reporter: ‘I am sure Kagawa will help us… errr…. would have helped us…’

Kagawa moved to Manchester United for £12 million but it seems that Dortmund will only pay £6.3 million to re-sign the attacking midfielder.

Several other Man Utd players look set to join Kagawa in leaving Old Trafford with rumours suggesting that Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez could be at new clubs before the transfer window closes.
