Respected Portuguese football journalist Goncalo Lopes has claimed that Arsenal today made a bid for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, but the bid was rejected with only hours left until the transfer window slams shut.

Arsenal (along with Manchester United) have long been chasing the 22-year-old powerhouse, but it appears they’ve left it too late to firm up their interest with an actual offer.
The player himself stated earlier today that he’s happy with Sporting, and doesn’t see himself leaving the club today.
“I have a contract, I feel good at Sporting. I have nothing more to say,” he said, reported in the Mirror.
