Arsenal have reportedly opted to make a move for Schalke forward Klaas-Jan Huntelaar according to the Daily Express.

The move would appear to leave their apparent interest in Man United’s Danny Welbeck hanging in the balance unless of course Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was keen to bring in not one, but two, striker signings on transfer deadline day.

According to German reports the north London side are ready to make an offer of £12.75m for the Dutch international, which would trigger the 31 year old’s release clause though it’s not often that Wenger approaches players in the latter stages of their careers so it may be wise to treat such speculation with caution.

With Olivier Giroud set for a lengthy spell out with a fractured foot and neither Yaya Sanogo or Joel Campbell being experienced enough to lead the Arsenal line there is certainly a necessity for a fresh option in the final third.

Huntelaar failed to make an impact at both Real Madrid and AC Milan though arguably wasn’t given enough time to prove himself at either the Bernabeu or the San Siro.

Since moving to Germany the former Ajax man has proven a massive success, scoring 92 goals in 140 appearances for Schalke.
