Arsenal could be set to sign Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck on a permanent basis, report talkSPORT, with the player’s agent having suggested that the England international is keen to leave Old Trafford full time rather than only on loan, as had initially seemed likely.

Welbeck looks set to become the striker signed by Arsenal to cover for the injured Olivier Giroud, who has been ruled out for up to four months with a foot injury sustained the Gunners’ 2-2 Premier League draw at Everton.

Initial reports had suggested that Welbeck was undergoing a medical with the Gunners ahead of a season-long loan deal to the Emirates Stadium, but the player’s agent has hinted that any move could well be a permanent one:

“There have been a few clubs in for Danny and they’re looking for loan deals with a view to buying, but Danny doesn’t want to go on loan.”

“He wants a straight transfer and he has every right to say that.”

“In the last half an hour I have received some interest in a straight transfer which I’m going to speak to Manchester United about.”

Welbeck was reportedly made available for transfer by United recently, despite being involved in recent clashes with Milton Keynes Dons and Burnley, with a host of Premier League sides including Tottenham Hotspur and Everton having been interested in offering the player a way out of Old Trafford.

Arsenal have emerged as the shock favourites to sign him today, however, although there are still plenty of questions to be answered over the potential deal, with Arsenal running out of time to push the move through and also the million dollar question – will the move be a permanent one for the Gunners?
