The 26-year-old travelled to Italy on Monday morning to undergo a medical with the club and has now agreed personal terms with the club.

Richards, who is currently still City’s longest serving player, had fallen out of favour over recent seasons, which were also tempered by a series of injuries.

Richards has reluctantly accepted he needs to leave the club due to the form of Pablo Zabaleta and the summer arrival of Bacary Sagna, and decided to turn down City’s offer of a new contract and pay rise in April.

He racked up 245 appearances for the champions since making his debut away to Arsenal in October 2005, scoring 10 goals in the process.

Picking up 13 caps for the England national side, he will be hoping to reignite his career in Italy, and joins Ashley Cole in becoming the second English full-back to head to Serie A in the current transfer window.
