Liverpool are hoping to sign former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes on a free transfer, report the Express, but only once the Spaniard is able to prove his fitness to Brendan Rodgers by passing a stringent Anfield medical after recovering from the knee injury that will keep him out until November.

Valdes left the Nou Camp at the end of last season on a free transfer after spending his entire career with Barcelona, but his search for new employers has had to be put on hold due to the serious cruciate injury that he sustained at the back end of last season.

With Valdes’ recovery now on the horizon, however, it suggests that Rodgers is now ready to make his move for the goalkeeper – although the move is not massively urgent, as he can sign for a club outside of the transfer window due to not being contracted elsewhere.

Valdes made almost 400 La Liga appearances for Barcelona over a period of 12 years, whilst he also picked up 20 caps for Spain, being frustrated on that front by the presence of Real Madrid stalwart Iker Casillas, with the two being amongst the finest goalkeeperson the planet during the same period.
