Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo is close to joining Valencia on a season-long loan deal with a view to a £20 million permanent move, report the Mail, as City look to gather enough funds to allow them to launch an audacious deadline day swoop for Radamel Falcao under the terms of Financial Fair Play.

City need to sell to free up enough available net spend to be able to fund a £55m move for AS Monaco and Colombia superstar Falcao – with Negredo one of the players who is likely to be pushed out of the club on deadline day to allow them to go ahead with the move.

The Spaniard has fallen down the pecking order at Eastlands after a lightning quick start for the club and is currently out injured, although that is not likely to prevent him from passing a medical with La Liga club Valencia, who were taken over this summer and are looking to reclaim their place at the top of Spanish football.

The likes of Micah Richards, Scott Sinclair and Matija Nastasic could also follow Negredo out of City today, but it would appear that the first necessary departure is on the verge of completion.
