Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino is set to return with a transfer raid on former club Southampton, report the Independent, offering winger Andros Townsend as part of a deal worth £14m for striker Jay Rodriguez.

Former Burnley striker Rodriguez really found his feet in the Premier League under the management of Pochettino and was one of Southampton’s key players before picking up a serious injury towards the back end of last season – ruling him out of both the World Cup and the opening weeks of this campaign.

Despite these fitness worries, however, Pochettino seems determined to bring Rodriguez to White Hart Lane – and has offered Southampton winger Andros Townsend as a carrot, with the Saints reportedly having made an eight figure bid for the England winger themselves last week.

With the bid rejected by Spurs for Townsend believed to have been in the region of £12m, it seems as though the package put together by Tottenham to offer for Rodriguez has little cash accompanying the player – and the Saints are likely to rate their star striker much higher than that, with manager Ronald Koeman sure to keen to see how he is able to link up with Graziano Pelle, the Italian who has started life in the Premier League well after signing from Feyenoord this summer.
